RV Cleaning & Maintenance FAQs

What products should I use to winterize my RV sanitation system?

To properly winterize your RV sanitation system:

  • Clean the toilet with Aqua Clean® or Aqua-Foam™
  • Add Toilet Seal Lubricant and antifreeze to the toilet bowl
  • Clean black and grey water tanks with Tank Blaster®
  • Add holding tank treatment, Drain Valve Lubricant, and antifreeze (if freezing is possible) to each tank
  • Sanitize the fresh water tank using Fresh Water Tank Sanitizer

What do enzymes do in my black tank?

Enzymes help break down waste and toilet paper more efficiently. This reduces odors and helps prevent clogs when emptying the tank.

Can I leave my dump valves open when connected to a sewer hookup?

  • Black tank: Never leave the valve open during use. Liquids will drain out, leaving solid waste behind, which can cause odors and blockages.
  • Grey tank: It is generally safe to leave this valve open when connected.

Periodic cleaning with Tank Blaster® is recommended to remove buildup over time.

Can I use household cleaners in my RV toilet?

It’s not recommended. Many household cleaners contain:

  • Bleach or strong acids, which can damage seals
  • Abrasives, which can scratch and dull surfaces

Use RV-specific cleaners instead, as they are designed to protect surfaces and plumbing systems.

Why should I use toilet treatments?

Toilet treatments:

  • Break down waste and toilet paper
  • Help prevent clogs
  • Keep tank walls clean
  • Reduce unpleasant odors

How does Aqua MAX® work in my holding tank?

Aqua MAX® uses biological and enzyme-based ingredients to:

  • Accelerate waste breakdown
  • Reduce odors
  • Add fragrance to help mask any remaining smells

How often should I replace the toilet lip seal?

It’s recommended to replace the lip seal every 4 to 6 years, depending on usage.
Regular maintenance (about twice a year) can help extend its life.

What causes a leak behind my toilet?

A common cause is a faulty vacuum breaker, which typically needs to be replaced.

How do I clean my RV toilet properly?

  • Use Aqua Clean® or another RV-safe cleaner
  • Clean with a soft cloth or sponge
  • Avoid bristle brushes, as they can scratch the surface
